The Death of the Point-and-Click
The mouse cursor is a relic of the 1990s. We are now building Glassmorphism interfaces that react to human gaze. In my experience, as we migrate toward the Spatial Web (Apple Vision Pro, Meta Quest 5), the concept of a "hover state" must be redefined through biometric data.
The WebXR Gaze Engine
Using the WebXR Device API, we can track exactly where a user is looking within a 3D interface. By mapping this gaze coordinate to our CSS backdrop-filter parameters, we can create "foveated refraction"—where the glass becomes sharper or more distorted based on the user's attention. This isn't just a gimmick; it's a fundamental change in how we signal interactivity.
Technical Workflow
We use a custom React hook to bridge the foveated tracking data to CSS variables. When you look at an OBJ_GLASS component, the refraction index changes dynamically, creating a tactile feedback loop that feels like a physical object responding to your presence.
